Popeyes originated in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1972. Founded by Al Copeland, the restaurant initially started as a fried chicken joint named "Chicken on the Run." The name was later changed to Popeyes, inspired by the character Popeye Doyle from the movie "The French Connection." The brand quickly gained fame for its spicy chicken and unique flavor.
