Misty Copeland is an American ballet dancer and the first African American woman to be promoted to principal dancer at the American Ballet Theatre. Born on September 10, 1982, in Kansas City, Missouri, she began ballet at age 13. Copeland has faced numerous challenges but has become a role model, inspiring many through her journey and advocacy for diversity in ballet.
